The Second Annual Operation Market-Garden Reenactment & Memorial Weekend

West Overton Museums cordially invites you to the second annual Operation Market-Garden Reenactment & Memorial Weekend.  This year we commemorate the 66th anniversary of this offensive, and plan on it being bigger and better than before.

Operation Market-Garden was the largest airborne operation in World War II.  On 17 September 1944, thousands of paratroopers descended from the sky by parachute or glider up to 150km behind enemy lines.  Their goal was to secure bridges across the rivers in Holland so that the Allied army could advance rapidly northwards and turn right into the lowlands of Germany, hereby skirting around the Germans' heavily defended Siegfried Line.  If all was carried out as planned, it should have ended the war by Christmas, 1944.  Unfortunately, this daring plan did not have the expected outcome.  The bridge at Arnhem proved to be "a bridge too far" and after ten days of bitter fighting the operation ended with the evacuation of the remainder of the Airborne Divisions from the Arnhem area.

West Overton will be transformed into a Dutch farm circa September, 1944.  Allied and German reenactors will fight for control of the grounds, simulating the ferocious fighting that occurred on those ten fateful days.

Registration is open until (postmarked) September 02, and is $15 per person.  Walk-on participants are most welcome, and the walk-on price is $20.
